Q. – When is the All-Star game?
A. – Saturday November 3 rd. If you are chosen to be a U10 or U12 coach, you will be required to submit a list of 4 to 6 players for the All-Star game prior to the end of the season.
Q. - How are Rec coaches selected?
A. - There are many factors taken into consideration: Coaching license, input from other coaches, parent input, referee input, player input, and coaching longevity. The RPSL board wants to make sure that all of our players are learning the game of soccer and having fun. The Coaches Representative submits the list of available coaches to the board, and then the RPSL board decides and approves the coaches for all age groups in Rec and D3.
Q. – What are the expectations of the coach?
A. – Coaches are expected to:
When league games start, remember that they are for the kids, not for the coach or the parents. You may have the opportunity to keep the game fun for your team and the opponent. Please always keep that in mind. Wins and losses, and how much you win by, does not dictate a successful year.
Q. - How does the Rec draft work?
A. – Each coach will draw a number, to determine the order of the draft. A “snake” draft (team number one pick’s first in the first round, and then last in the next round) will be used. There will be two lists: An older age list and the younger age list. All players from the older age list will be taken first. When that list is depleted, then the draft will continue with the younger age group. Each coach must select their own child in the second round of the given age list. If their assistant’s child is in the same age group, then that player will be their third pick. However, if the assistant’s child is in a different age group (younger or older) then that player will be selected as the second pick from that age group. Each coach is allowed only “one assistant coach” for the draft.
NOTE: Coaches cannot claim a player as their “assistant coach child” unless the Coaches Representative has a completed coach’s form, from that assistant, prior to the draft.
Q - Are there any special requirements for Inter-league (U14 - U19)?
A. - Yes. Each team is required to obtain a player pass for each player and for each coach, and a district approved roster before the first game is played. Please note these rosters and cards take between 3-4 weeks to process. To process the player passes, each coach will need to provide the RPSL registrar with the following:
1. A clear photocopy of each players birth certificate (no hospital or church certificates).
2. A recent headshot/photo (no sun glasses or hats) of each player cut to 1" x 1 1/2". Each photo is to be labeled with player's name and team number on the back.
Q. - When are the pictures returned?
A. – We hope to collect the equipment and return the pictures on the last day of the U6-U12 games. Tentatively, this date is scheduled for October 20, from 1-3pm, at the soccer building. This will be done by parent volunteers/ representative from each age group.
Q. - How do I contact the Coaches Representatives?
A. – The best way to contact David, Jim or Andrew, before or after the draft, is to email them. Click on the Contacts link for their e-mail addresses.
Please make sure the title in the subject line has the word “soccer” in it. That way they won't delete it by mistake.
